In particular\, philosophers have tended to take one theory therein at face value: the constructive episodic simulation hypothesis (CESH). Because this theory posits an episodic simulation system\, that is\, a joint system for memory and imagination\, it has been claimed that it is a matter of consensus in the empirical literature that there is no difference in kind between these two capacities. We argue both that the CESH is the only theory that posits an episodic simulation system and that this posit was never justified. There is thus no consensus on the existence of a system for episodic memory and imagination. To accomplish this\, the CESH’s aims and commitments are laid bare and some conditions under which positing neurocognitive systems is justified are made explicit. \nTitre: A la recherche d’un système de simulation épisodique \nDe nombreuses recherches sur la nature de la mémoire épisodique et de l’imagination se sont appuyées sur les avancées des neurosciences cognitives concernées. En particulier\, les philosophes ont eu tendance à accepter aveuglément une théorie issue de ce domaine: l’hypothèse de la simulation épisodique constructive (CESH). Parce que cette théorie pose l’existence d’un système de simulation épisodique\, c’est-à-dire un système conjoint pour la mémoire et l’imagination\, il a été soutenu qu’il existe un consensus dans la littérature empirique selon lequel il n’y a pas de différence de nature entre ces deux capacités. Nous soutenons à la fois que la CESH est la seule théorie à poser un système de simulation épisodique et que ce postulat n’a jamais été justifié. Il n’y a donc aucun consensus sur l’existence d’un système propre à la mémoire épisodique et à l’imagination. Pour ce faire\, les objectifs et les engagements de la CESH sont mis à nu\, et certaines conditions sous lesquelles le postulat de systèmes neurocognitifs est justifié sont explicitées.
